Heirs Energies has acquired a 20.07% equity stake in Seplat Energy from Maurel & Prom S.A. for approximately $500 million. This transaction, involving 120.4 million ordinary shares at GBP3.05 pence per share, marks a significant investment by a leading African energy company into a strategic resource, strengthening local participation in Nigeria’s energy sector.
This acquisition aligns with Heirs Energies’ broader strategy of enhancing indigenous control over critical energy assets and promoting energy development and security across Nigeria and Africa. Chairman Tony Elumelu noted the long-term investment underscores a commitment to the continent's energy future and supports Seplat Energy’s established governance and growth prospects.
The financial backing for the deal came from Afreximbank and Africa Finance Corporation, underscoring African financial institutions' capability to facilitate substantial intra-continental transactions.
