Mutares acquires Venator
Mutares has finalized its acquisition of Venator Pigments France SAS, a key producer of ultramarine pigments, for €35 million approximately $38 million. This transaction marks an important enhancement to Mutares' Chemicals & Materials segment, positioning it strategically within the specialty chemicals market as it seeks to capitalize on emergent growth opportunities.
The acquisition includes Venator's subsidiaries, Venator Chemicals France SAS and Venator International France SAS, solidifying Mutares' portfolio expansion within the sector. Headquartered in Comines, France, Venator Pigments France is known for its production of ultramarine blue, violet, and pink pigments, serving sectors like plastics, cosmetics, paints and coatings, and construction. The firm, which employs around 110 staff and reports an annual turnover of €35 million, holds the second-largest global market share for technical ultramarine pigments. Mutares intends to leverage this expertise and market reach to boost innovation and meet increasing demands for quality pigments across various industries.
This acquisition is part of Mutares' broader strategy to strengthen its presence in the specialty chemicals industry through selective acquisitions. Earlier, Mutares had secured SABIC’s engineering thermoplastics (ETP) business, which also feeds into their Chemicals & Materials division. Venator Pigments France's established customer and distributor relationships across Europe, Asia, and the Americas are anticipated to drive significant growth. Mutares stressed the strategic importance of the deal, underscoring its goal to fortify its market leadership and develop innovative solutions within the sector.
