The Ensign Group, Inc. has expanded its footprint in Texas with the acquisition of The Chateau Waco, a 123-bed skilled nursing facility. While the financial details of the transaction remain undisclosed, the acquisition was finalized on February 1, 2026. This strategic move reflects Ensign's ongoing commitment to increasing its presence in one of its most established markets.

The transaction involved both the real estate and operations of The Chateau Waco, acquired by Standard Bearer Healthcare REIT, Inc., Ensign’s real estate arm. Operations of the facility were transferred to an Ensign-affiliated operator under a long-term lease agreement. Alongside The Chateau Waco, Ensign also completed the acquisitions of three additional skilled nursing facilities in Texas and one in Wisconsin, with real estate for these transactions also managed by Standard Bearer.

According to Ensign's CEO Barry Port, the acquisition is part of a broader strategy to enhance their operational network and asset base within Texas. Port emphasized that these additions to the Texas portfolio align with Ensign’s strategy of clustering operations to enhance efficiency and service delivery. Local subsidiary Keystone Care LLC is set to integrate existing staff with its team to leverage collective expertise for improved patient outcomes.

This acquisition places Ensign more firmly within the competitive healthcare sector in Texas, a state that represents a large portion of its operational footprint. By expanding its portfolio, Ensign is positioning itself to leverage economies of scale, which may provide a competitive advantage in a market with growing demand for skilled nursing and rehabilitative services.

Looking ahead, Ensign’s continued pursuit of strategically aligning its capabilities and expanding its real estate holdings indicates a strong growth trajectory. The company’s portfolio now includes 378 healthcare operations, underscoring its commitment to identifying compelling acquisition opportunities, both in robust and underperforming areas. The effective integration of these facilities will be an important next step in sustaining their growth momentum.
