SMS Equipment acquires Suomen Rakennuskone Oy

SMS Equipment, a prominent Canadian dealer in heavy machinery, has bolstered its international presence by acquiring Suomen Rakennuskone Oy, a Finnish distributor of construction and mining equipment. The acquisition marks SMS Equipment's first venture into the European market, further extending its operational reach which already includes territories in Alaska and Mongolia. The transaction's financial terms remain undisclosed.

Suomen Rakennuskone Oy, founded in 1992, operates from its headquarters in Pirkkala, Finland, with additional branches located in Kempele, Kuopio, Vantaa, and Kevitsa. The company is recognized as Finland’s exclusive dealer for Komatsu mining and construction machinery, thus positioning SMS Equipment strategically in the Finnish market. The acquisition will allow SMS Equipment to leverage Suomen Rakennuskone Oy's established base in both the construction and burgeoning mining sectors of Finland, the latter of which benefits significantly from the country's reserves of critical minerals such as nickel, gold, cobalt, and lithium.

SMS Equipment CEO Robin Heard described the acquisition as a pivotal step in the company's strategy for international growth. By integrating Suomen Rakennuskone Oy's operations, SMS Equipment aims to enhance the development of the construction and mining industries in Finland through its extensive expertise in these sectors.
