Vertiv acquires Strategic Thermal Labs

Vertiv, an Ohio-based company specializing in critical digital infrastructure, has expanded its capabilities in the cooling technology sector by acquiring Strategic Thermal Labs (STL), a Georgetown-based specialist in advanced liquid-cooling technologies. The acquisition underscores Vertiv's strategy to enhance its thermal management offerings, a critical aspect for AI and high-performance computing environments, though financial details remain undisclosed.

Founded in 2014, Strategic Thermal Labs has developed expertise in cold-plate design, server-side liquid cooling, and high-density thermal validation. These technologies are increasingly vital as data centers and computing facilities grapple with the rising heat generation of modern, high-power-density computing systems. STL had previously secured a seed investment in April 2024 from a funding round led by Carrier Ventures, which also included participation from Cowtown Angels, the investment arm of TechFW.

According to Scott Armul, Vertiv’s chief product and technology officer, STL’s proficiency in tackling chip-level thermal challenges will significantly enhance Vertiv's ability to develop and validate solutions for liquid-cooled computing environments.
