Perch Energy acquires Solstice
Perch Energy has acquired Solstice, a company specializing in customer acquisition and management in the community solar sector. The agreement fortifies Perch's status as a significant player in the U.S. community solar space by enhancing its acquisition and management capabilities. While the financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, it enables Perch to expand its market presence across the community solar industry.
As a result of the acquisition, Perch Energy will oversee more than 3 gigawatts (GW) of solar capacity from over 1,000 projects across 16 states, servicing approximately 450,000 residential customers. Solstice contributes to this portfolio with 550 megawatts (MW) of contracted solar projects. The transaction also brings advanced technological and operational expertise to Perch, as well as an unspecified additional financial investment. Notably, Solstice's co-founder and CEO, Sandhya Murali, along with Vice President Tyler Yasa, will take on leadership roles within Perch.
The strategic move reflects Perch's commitment to evolving in response to the dynamic U.S. energy transition. According to Bruce Stewart, CEO of Perch Energy, the growing community solar market demands active transformation to improve service delivery to consumers, project owners, and developers. Solstice's integration offers a comprehensive upgrade to Perch's technological and service capabilities, aligning with this objective.
This acquisition comes ahead of a planned venture in 2025 aimed at merging the community solar businesses of Perch and Arcadia into a standalone entity. This suggests an industry trend towards consolidation, as companies seek scale and efficiency in a sector marked by rapid growth and increasing competition.
Looking forward, the transaction may set off a chain of similar strategic consolidations within the community solar market. The integration process will be critical in realizing the projected synergies and operational enhancements. Regulatory review and alignment in jurisdictions where both firms operate could also be a factor in closing the deal fully and effectively.
