Luminace, known for providing decarbonization-as-a-service, has acquired a 9.3 MWdc portfolio of community solar projects from Renewable Properties for approximately €9.3 million, roughly $10 million USD. This acquisition, focused on projects located in Illinois, underscores Luminace’s strategy to bolster its footprint in the community solar sector.

The transaction encompasses two specific solar projects set to begin construction soon: the 5.16 MWdc County Line Solar project in the Village of Shorewood and the 4.06 MWdc Bemes Road Solar project in Will County. These projects are scheduled to come online in the fourth quarter of 2026 and the second quarter of 2027, respectively, adding to the Illinois community solar pipeline. This marks the second collaboration between Luminace and Renewable Properties in Illinois, following a previous acquisition of a 20.85 MWdc portfolio in September 2024.

Strategically, this acquisition enables Luminace to capitalize on incentives under the Illinois Shines Adjustable Block program. Supported by the Climate and Equitable Jobs Act of 2021, the program aims to foster over 1.5 GW of new community solar projects by 2030. Already, the program has a total of 3.5 GW, including 1.7 GW operational in Illinois. Brendon Quinlivan, CEO of Luminace, emphasized the importance of this partnership in contributing decades of renewable energy capacity to the region.

In the broader market context, Luminace’s acquisition highlights the ongoing consolidation in the community solar sector, as firms look to scale operations to meet state-level renewable energy targets. For Renewable Properties, which has a development pipeline over 1.7 GW across the United States, the sale provides capital to sustain its efforts in solar, storage, and electric vehicle charging infrastructure.

Looking ahead, Luminace's continued expansion in Illinois could prompt further regulatory engagement, especially as the projects progress towards completion over the next several years. The collaboration between Luminace and Renewable Properties serves as a testament to the increasing emphasis on renewable energy infrastructure as both companies look to advance their positions in the evolving energy landscape.
