Herschend Family Entertainment acquires Silverwood
Herschend Family Entertainment Corporation has finalized its acquisition of Silverwood Theme Park and Boulder Beach Water Park from Silverwood, Inc. The deal, whose financial terms remain undisclosed, involves the two parks located in the Pacific Northwest and follows the initial agreement reached in November 2025. Silverwood, spanning 400 acres with over 70 attractions, has been under the Norton family's operation since 1988.
The acquisition reflects Herschend's strategy to deepen its footprint in North American family attractions. The company serves nearly 20 million people annually through its over 40 brands and emphasizes maintaining the individuality of each property. Andrew Wexler, Herschend's CEO, highlighted the importance of preserving the unique legacy that Silverwood represents, emphasizing the company's role in fostering community and creating memorable experiences.
The appeal of Silverwood to Herschend lies in its established reputation and regional draw as a destination. By acquiring this property, Herschend aims to continue its mission of "Bringing Families Closer Together by Creating Memories Worth Repeating." Chris Herschend, Board Chair, indicated that the company’s loyalties lie beyond short-term financial performance, focusing instead on long-term stewardship, which is now extended to the Silverwood team and its loyal customer base.
This acquisition positions Herschend within a competitive and evolving theme park sector, where traditional family-run parks face increasing pressure from larger entertainment conglomerates. By acquiring Silverwood, Herschend consolidates its presence in the region, challenging other operators to reassess their market strategies and possibly prompting further consolidation in the sector.
The Silverwood transition, set for completion by the opening of the next season on May 2, 2026, will prioritize retaining its established brand identity and guest offerings. Herschend will maintain the existing management team and is committed to engaging with local stakeholders as part of its integration process. While regulatory or closing conditions have not been highlighted, the focus will be on a seamless transition and continuity of guest experiences, such as the park's signature events like Night of the Stars and Coaster Classic.
