ETC acquires Pharos Architectural Controls
Entertainment Technology Corporation (ETC) has acquired Pharos Architectural Controls, a UK-based firm, in a move to strengthen its position in the architectural lighting controls market. Although terms of the transaction were not disclosed, the acquisition marks a transition from a two-decade-long partnership to a tighter integration of the two companies’ operations, as Pharos becomes part of ETC's growing architectural lighting segment.
The acquisition brings Pharos' established market presence in Europe, the Middle East, and Asia-Pacific under the ETC umbrella. Historically, Pharos has been the engineering backbone of ETC’s Mosaic line, and the firm will continue to operate independently, including maintaining its own sales and support channels under its current leadership. This arrangement underscores ETC’s recognition of Pharos' quick adaptability to design trends without being encumbered by ETC's broader focus on theatrical lighting.
Strategically, the acquisition aims to leverage Pharos' advanced lighting control systems, particularly its LPC and VLC controllers and Designer software, known for managing complex pixel-based architectural installations. These systems have been implemented in projects ranging from interactive urban façades to theme parks, highlighting Pharos' technical prowess. ETC, which commands a substantial footprint in entertainment and architectural lighting, aims to exploit its North American resources to increase the visibility and deployment of Pharos products in this market.
For ETC, the move is a logical extension of its exisiting capabilities to offer comprehensive, unified lighting solutions. The integration of Pharos’ technology complements ETC's objective to provide more cohesive control systems, catering to designers and building owners interested in blending performance and architectural lighting on projects such as airports, museums, and mixed-use developments. By enhancing its architectural supply chain, ETC is positioned to offer more competitive and integrated solutions.
Looking ahead, the industry may see an increased presence of Pharos products, particularly as ETC incorporates them into its North American offerings. This acquisition, while low-profile, could potentially ripple through the architectural lighting sector, as specifiers and integrators encounter an expanded portfolio of integrated lighting control options.
