GMS Inc., a roofing and building materials distributor, has completed the acquisition of Ontario-based Peridot Supply. This transaction, effective May 15, strengthens GMS's presence in the Canadian market where Peridot operates three locations in Brampton, Ottawa, and Dorchester. Financial details of the deal were not disclosed.

Peridot Supply specializes in distributing roofing and building envelope materials, including flat and steep-slope roofing, insulation, and wall products. The acquisition allows GMS to enhance its distribution capabilities across Canada and meet rising customer demand in the region. GMS, which is a subsidiary of SRS Distribution and falls under the ownership of The Home Depot, operates over 320 distribution centers in the U.S. and Canada, in addition to nearly 100 tool sales, rental, and service centers.

Paul Green, president of GMS Canada, highlighted that Peridot's operational philosophy aligns with GMS's strategy. “The Peridot team has served the building industry well and offers a complete package of roofing construction materials,” Green stated. Post-acquisition, Peridot will continue its operations under its current brand, with its leadership, including Doug Brown and SVP Douglas Brown, maintaining oversight while integrating within GMS’s Canadian service networks.

In the broader roofing and building materials sector, the integration of Peridot into GMS’s operations suggests a strategic expansion maneuver by SRS Distribution to consolidate and strengthen its foothold in the competitive North American market. This acquisition aligns with the industry trend of consolidation to optimize supply chains and expand geographic reach, exemplified by similar moves from rivals such as ABC Supply.

Going forward, the integration will likely focus on harmonizing Peridot’s operations with GMS’s existing infrastructure. With no specific regulatory hurdles outlined, the deal's future success will depend on achieving operational synergies and efficiently meeting customer needs across the newly expanded distribution network.
