Oak Inc. raises $60M in Seed
Oak Inc., a startup specializing in identity management, has secured $60 million in its seed funding round. This infusion of capital underscores the growing priority for cybersecurity solutions that prevent unauthorized access to corporate applications—a need amplified by the increasing complexity of business software ecosystems.
The funding was co-led by Accel, Greylock Partners, and CRV, with participation from Hetz Ventures, AlphaDrive Ventures, and several angel investors. Based in Tel Aviv, Oak is spearheaded by CEO Shai Morag, a serial entrepreneur with a history of successful cybersecurity ventures, including startups acquired by industry giants Mellanox, Palo Alto Networks, and Tenable.
Oak's platform addresses the challenge of tracking application access amid proliferating software and AI agent usage within large enterprises. By automatically mapping corporate network access permissions, Oak identifies potential risks associated with unnecessary or mismanaged access. The platform also adheres to the principle of separation of duties (SoD), aiming to minimize risks by ensuring no single employee can access multiple sensitive system components.
The tool offers a ChatGPT-like interface for administrators, facilitating natural language interactions to explore security incidents and remediation strategies. It can also autonomously fix identified issues, pending approval of a step-by-step remediation plan. Oak maintains that its prepackaged integrations enable the rapid deployment of its system, significantly reducing setup time from months to mere days, and effectively gathering telemetry even from non-API systems.
With the proceeds of this funding round, Oak plans to expand its engineering team, as announced by Morag, who pointed out the ongoing inadequacies of existing identity management tools. "I've built several companies in this space, so I understand why identity has stayed broken for so long," he remarked, highlighting the fragmented nature of current solutions.
As enterprises increasingly prioritize robust security measures, Oak's emergence could place pressure on competitors within the identity management domain. The company's ability to streamline integration and remediation processes may set new benchmarks for performance and efficiency in cybersecurity.
Looking forward, Oak's ability to execute on its growth plans and further validate its technology in live environments will be critical. This funding round serves as a stepping stone for Oak to refine its platform, potentially triggering shifts in investment and innovation trends within the cybersecurity sector.
