Power Solutions International acquires MTL Manufacturing & Equipment Inc.

Power Solutions International, Inc. (PSI), a producer of alternative-fuel and conventional power systems, has acquired MTL Manufacturing & Equipment Inc., a metal and steel manufacturing firm, based in Beloit, Wisconsin. The transaction, completed with PSI's existing cash reserves and assumption of certain equipment-related debt, was undertaken to augment PSI’s capacity in serving the growing data center power demand, enhancing supply chain control, and boosting vertical integration through MTL's capabilities.

MTL, known for manufacturing products such as switchgear subbases, electrical enclosure assemblies, and fuel tanks, operates two Beloit facilities with more than 185,000 square feet of manufacturing space. The firm's vertically integrated operations and multiple industry certifications, including UL142, ULC S601, and UL2085, offer PSI a strategic advantage in quality assurance and production efficiency.

The rationale for the acquisition aligns with PSI's strategy to consolidate its position in data center power systems, leveraging MTL's expertise in welding and steel fabrication. "We are bringing together the efforts of the two companies," stated PSI CEO Dino Xykis, emphasizing the synergy with MTL to meet data center market demands where vertical integration is crucial.

This deal is significant within the context of competitive pressures in power systems provisioning, particularly for data centers that demand robust and reliable power solutions. MTL's advanced manufacturing capabilities and certifications are expected to streamline PSI's supply chain, offer expedited production timelines, and meet stringent market standards.
