The Martin Group acquires Mr. Smith Agency
The Martin Group, a prominent marketing communications firm based in Buffalo, New York, has acquired Mr. Smith Agency, a creative and brand strategy studio located in Western New York. The acquisition, completed on May 1, 2026, marks the continued expansion of The Martin Group’s capabilities in branding, digital marketing, social media, and video production. The transaction's financial details remain undisclosed.
Under the terms of the deal, Mr. Smith Agency will operate as a separate division under The Martin Group's umbrella, maintaining its identity and leadership. All eight employees, including founder Rob Dimmer and partners Chrissy Pyne and Collin Wittman, will join The Martin Group. Mr. Smith’s clients will maintain existing relationships with their account teams while gaining access to an expanded suite of services offered by The Martin Group.
The acquisition is viewed as a strategic enhancement for The Martin Group, which celebrates its 25th anniversary this year. Mr. Smith Agency is noted for its innovative approach to brand strategy and content creation, making it a valuable addition to The Martin Group’s portfolio. Matt Davison, Chief Business Officer at The Martin Group, emphasized the cultural and creative synergies between the two firms, aiming to offer Mr. Smith’s boutique expertise to a broader client base without altering client experiences.
In absorbing Mr. Smith, The Martin Group bolsters its workforce to 107 employees across multiple locations, including offices in Buffalo, Rochester, Albany, and New York City, alongside a widespread remote presence. The agency benefits from minority investment by Hearst Corporation, a global media conglomerate, ensuring it remains innovatively independent in the marketplace.
Looking ahead, Mr. Smith will initially continue operating from its current premises on Washington Street before relocating to The Martin Group’s headquarters. Rob Dimmer ascends to the role of vice president and general manager of the new division, with Pyne and Wittman remaining central to creative and strategic efforts. This transition aims to capitalize on shared values and deepen client engagements based on the enhanced capabilities brought forth by The Martin Group.
