Malakoff Humanis Completes Sienna Gestion Acquisition

Malakoff Humanis has finalized its acquisition of Sienna Gestion from Groupe Bruxelles Lambert (GBL), cementing the French insurer's expansion into asset management. Valued at €11.4 billion ($12.3 billion), the transaction combines Sienna Gestion's private debt, listed, and hybrid assets, with Malakoff Humanis' existing portfolio. The deal was initially announced in exclusive negotiations on October 2, 2025, and marks a strategic addition for Malakoff Humanis in the rapidly evolving financial services landscape.

The acquisition integrates Sienna Gestion's assets with Malakoff Humanis, creating a singular entity that harnesses the expertise of Sienna’s existing leadership. Xavier Collot, who joined Sienna in 2022, will continue to spearhead the company’s diversification strategy, leveraging the resources of the larger Malakoff Humanis group. This expansion aligns with Malakoff Humanis' broader strategic aim to engage specialized partners and cement its footing as a significant player in the non-profit joint and mutualist social protection space in France.

For Malakoff Humanis, which services over 9 million individuals and holds €11.4 billion in equity, acquiring Sienna Gestion represents a calculated move to broaden its revenue base outside its traditional insurance and social protection offerings. The acquisition provides the company with enhanced capabilities in managing diverse asset classes and preparing for growth in complementary sectors such as private credit and hybrid assets. The move further solidifies its position in a competitive sector, allowing it to offer covered services to a substantial portion of France's corporate and individual insurance markets.

In light of this transaction, Malakoff Humanis positions itself to better compete with other major entities that are also diversifying their asset management capabilities amid a consolidating market. The acquiring company continues to support 15% of the group health and personal protection insurance market in France, as well as managing substantial retirement assets through the Agirc-Arrco pension institution.

There are no immediate regulatory hurdles foreseen as the deal has been completed. However, the operational integration and strategic execution will be closely monitored to ensure Sienna Gestion aligns with the overarching objectives of Malakoff Humanis.
