Legrand has acquired Kratos Industries as part of its strategic expansion into next-generation data center infrastructure, focusing on bolstering its power and thermal management offerings amid increasing demand driven by artificial intelligence (AI) workloads. Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. Concurrently, Legrand has invested in Accelsius, a firm specializing in direct-to-chip liquid cooling technology, to enhance its thermal management capabilities.

Kratos Industries, based in Arvada, Colorado, manufactures equipment such as low-voltage switchboards and medium-voltage switchgear, primarily for data centers and industrial clients. Known for a vertically integrated production model, Kratos tailored its products to meet the specific needs of mission-critical infrastructures. The acquisition allows Legrand to strengthen its critical power portfolio tailored to data center demands, supplementing its existing offerings such as cable bus systems and load banks, alongside its white space power solutions that include busway and rack power distribution units.

The integration will see Rowan Koons stepping into the role of Vice President and General Manager of the Kratos business unit within Legrand's Data, Power, and Control division. This move is positioned to enable Legrand to deliver a comprehensive power ecosystem catering to data center operators, thereby meeting the growing needs for scalable, robust digital infrastructure. Legrand is positioning itself to address the increasing pressures data centers face in executing large-scale, reliable digital infrastructure projects.

In addition, Legrand's investment in Accelsius' latest funding round aligns with its strategy to innovate within white space thermal management of data centers. Accelsius's liquid cooling technology, which removes heat directly at the processor level, is viewed as a response to the energy efficiency puzzles posed by higher AI-driven compute densities. By integrating advanced cooling solutions within its rack infrastructure, Legrand aims to provide a holistic solution to managing both power and thermal aspects of data centers.

Looking ahead, while the acquisition of Kratos consolidates Legrand's presence in the data center power market, the collaboration with Accelsius may drive further innovation in the integration of advanced cooling systems. As Legrand continues to exploit its acquisition and strategic partnerships, the company looks set to fortify its position as a comprehensive solutions provider in the rapidly evolving data center sector. The 2025 revenue reports highlighted a robust performance with sales at €9.5 billion, underscoring Legrand's solid standing in the market.
