Highlight AI Inc. raises $40M in Series A
Highlight AI Inc., an emerging player in the artificial intelligence productivity sector, has secured $40 million through a Series A funding round. Led by Khosla Ventures, this influx of capital underpins the company's ambitions to enhance its AI-driven desktop application aimed at improving the efficiency of knowledge workers. The funding round also saw the participation of more than six additional investors.
In conjunction with the funding announcement, Highlight AI has appointed Sergei Sorokin, former Vice President of Product at Discord Inc., as its new Chief Executive Officer. Founded in 2024 as a spinoff from Medal Inc., Highlight AI has developed a platform that simplifies data analysis for business users. Its capabilities include converting complex documents into natural language explanations, generating meeting notes, and consolidating fragmented information into actionable tasks through the use of advanced AI models provided by companies like OpenAI Group PBC.
Highlight AI offers its application in two tiers: a free version and a paid option named Highlight Premium, priced at $20 per month. The premium version grants users access to sophisticated AI capabilities tailored for handling complex tasks, while more basic operations are processed by smaller AI models with reduced latency. Since its inception, the startup has amassed a user base exceeding 500,000, drawing interest from major companies such as Google LLC and Doordash Inc.
Proceeds from the funding round are earmarked for expanding Highlight’s feature set, notably through the development of a "unified team memory engine." This innovative tool is designed to streamline complex, collaborative tasks by automating project management processes. It leverages AI to assign tasks by analyzing design projects, relevant communications, and other related data. The memory engine can even autonomously complete certain operations, like coding designs into functional web interfaces, utilizing third-party tools.
Highlight AI is currently carrying out trials of these new AI functionalities with a select customer group. Upcoming updates promise the deployment of AI agents capable of automating a wider array of tasks, facilitated by the memory engine’s capabilities. These next-generation AI agents are expected to operate using world models, which employ neural networks to create three-dimensional virtual environments. Highlight AI's innovations could potentially drive developments within the AI productivity sector, posing strategic challenges and opportunities for competitors.
