Chimes acquires Family Focus
Chimes International has acquired Family Focus, a mental health services provider based in Henrico, Virginia, in a strategic transaction that enhances Chimes' service offerings and geographical presence. This acquisition, finalized on January 15, transforms Family Focus from a for-profit entity to a nonprofit organization, aligning it with Chimes' operational model. The financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed.
Family Focus, founded in 2001 by Pat Harris and employing around 40 staff, offers therapy and psychiatric care to individuals and families in the Richmond area through both home-based and outpatient services. The acquisition follows Harris’s decision to retire and her desire to find a successor aligning with her organization’s values. Nicole Barnes, Director of Clinical Services at Family Focus, noted that Chimes was chosen to support the company in expanding its services while maintaining its operational identity.
Chimes International, a nonprofit based in Baltimore, provides disability and mental health services across various locations, including a presence in Fairfax and an international program in Israel. This acquisition will enable Family Focus to access advanced technology, new training programs, and improved systems for human resources and payroll management. These enhancements aim to bolster the organization’s capacity to recruit staff and expand its services beyond its current 50-mile operational radius.
This transaction comes at a time when the mental health services sector is seeing increased focus on scaling capabilities to meet growing demand, driven by an acute need for accessible mental health care. By integrating Family Focus, Chimes seeks to deepen its impact in the mental health domain while leveraging Family Focus’s local expertise. The deal complements Chimes' recent acquisition of Career Support Systems, another Henrico-based service provider, further expanding its market footprint.
The ongoing transition will include efforts to secure grants utilizing Family Focus’s new nonprofit status, aiding in broadening its service delivery beyond the immediate Richmond area. As Chimes continues its expansion, stakeholders will closely monitor the implementation of these changes to ensure the integration upholds service quality and aligns with Chimes' broader strategic goals.
