Rotating Machinery Services acquires East Coast Mechanical & Marine
Rotating Machinery Services (RMS) has acquired East Coast Mechanical & Marine (ECMM) to bolster its field-service capabilities within the energy and industrial services sectors. This acquisition, for an undisclosed amount, enhances RMS's Global Technology Solutions (GTS) by integrating advanced metrology, tooling, and execution for critical rotating equipment maintenance.
The acquisition brings an additional 27 field-service professionals to RMS's workforce, augmenting its capacity in turbomachinery, millwright labor, and outage support. ECMM’s capabilities allow RMS to provide more comprehensive outage and turnaround solutions for industries including energy, petrochemicals, refining, power generation, and heavy manufacturing. The deal expands RMS’s geographic reach and allows for quicker mobilization in managing steam turbines, compressors, expanders, and similar machinery.
This integration aims to leverage ECMM’s technical field advisors and millwrights alongside RMS’s technological solutions, such as laser scanning and digital twins. "The acquisition of ECMM strengthens our ability to deliver technology-enabled field execution at scale," stated Kraig Simpson, Vice President of GTS at RMS. The addition is expected to result in more efficient, precise, and predictable service delivery.
With Matt Schreiner, ECMM’s owner, remaining in a leadership and technical role, the deal reflects RMS's strategy to enhance its service offerings with experienced personnel and superior engineering infrastructure. Schreiner views the merger as an opportunity to extend ECMM's established reputation with advanced resources and a broader global reach.
In the context of a growing energy sector, this acquisition positions RMS more competitively. The move underscores a trend towards integrating advanced technology in field services, a crucial factor amid increasing demand for efficiency and precision in the energy industry. Future steps for RMS involve aligning these enhanced capabilities with market needs, although regulatory scrutiny is not anticipated.
