Serve Robotics acquires Diligent Robotics

Serve Robotics has announced a definitive agreement to acquire Diligent Robotics in a stock transaction valued at $29 million, with an additional $5.3 million contingent on future performance metrics. This acquisition signifies Serve's transition into indoor, hospital-based robotic applications, expanding beyond its traditional outdoor delivery focus.

Diligent Robotics, founded by Andrea Thomaz and Vivian Chu in 2017, has developed the Moxi robot, an autonomous system currently operational in over 25 hospitals across the U.S. Moxi aids nursing and hospital staff by performing routine delivery tasks, thereby allowing staff to concentrate on patient care. It has completed more than 1.25 million deliveries to date. This acquisition will integrate Moxi’s technology and data into Serve’s existing Physical AI platform. Serve aims to enhance its platform’s ability to tackle complex indoor settings, such as hospitals, which involve navigating dense, human-centric environments and handling tasks like navigating elevators and operating doors.

The primary motivation behind the acquisition is to leverage Diligent’s existing healthcare-focused autonomy stack to bolster Serve's capabilities and market reach. Serve’s CEO noted that incorporating indoor hospital data will catalyze its autonomy platform, refining its application across various demanding settings. The move is expected to enable Serve to deploy robots that operate more reliably in intricate, multi-level environments, contributing to higher-revenue healthcare deployments and expanding the breadth of its Physical AI applications.

In the broader market context, Serve’s entry into the healthcare sector comes as robotics companies increasingly seek to diversify their applications beyond traditional settings.
