CodeIntegrity raises $5M in Seed
CodeIntegrity, a cybersecurity startup focused on securing agentic AI applications, has secured $5 million in a seed funding round led by Syn Ventures. The San Francisco-based company aims to apply the funds toward building robust protections for AI models, which have been shown to be susceptible to prompt injection attacks. These attacks exploit non-deterministic AI behaviors to inappropriately access or expose sensitive data. The round also saw participation from existing backers Antler and Boost VC, bringing the firm's total funding to $5.25 million.
The challenge addressed by CodeIntegrity lies in the inherent unpredictability of AI agents, which operate using natural language models. Unlike traditional software with deterministic responses, AI-powered systems require advanced security measures to prevent unauthorized manipulations. CodeIntegrity's approach involves installing a runtime control layer that serves as both a translator and a security filter for AI models, ensuring their functions align with predetermined rules and minimize data exposure risks.
Strategically, CodeIntegrity positions itself to lead in safeguarding AI deployments in enterprise settings where traditional security methods fall short. "Every company was aiming to launch agents into deployment, and they didn’t know how to do it safely," said the company's co-founder and CTO. Currently, to mitigate risks, businesses rely on human oversight or secondary AI models, but these methods are not entirely effective or scalable. CodeIntegrity seeks to provide a more reliable solution, thereby gaining first-mover advantage in this emergent cybersecurity niche.
This investment comes at a time when industry peers in AI security, including startups like Raven and Manifold Security in California, and Seattle-based upstarts, are also making strides in this domain. The ability of startups like CodeIntegrity to attract capital indicates the growing importance of AI security in enterprise technology strategies. Such investments reflect broader industry trends where increased reliance on AI requires reevaluation of existing security paradigms.
CodeIntegrity is currently piloting its security solutions with clients in regulated sectors and plans a wider product release in the next phases of its business plan. As the company’s co-founders, who relocated to San Francisco from Seattle, capitalize on the Bay Area's strategic position in AI development, recruitment of top engineering talent remains a focal point. Given the competitive landscape, CodeIntegrity's next steps will be closely watched as it attempts to validate its technology and expand its market presence.
