Afrirent Holdings acquires Busmark
Afrirent Holdings has acquired Busmark 2000 Proprietary Limited, a bus manufacturing company based in Randfontein, Gauteng, for an undisclosed sum. The acquisition removes Busmark from business rescue, a process it entered in August 2021. Afrirent's purchase marks a strategic expansion into high-capacity vehicle manufacturing, complementing its existing operations in fleet management, telematics, and logistics.
Afrirent founder and executive chairman, Senzo Tsabedze, stated that the acquisition not only diversifies Afrirent's service offering but ensures the continued innovation and delivery of Busmark's products in the South African transport sector. Tsabedze emphasized the acquisition's importance to the future of local manufacturing and expressed satisfaction with the Competition Commission's unconditional approval, pointing out the deal poses no competition or public interest concerns.
Busmark, known for manufacturing bus bodies for various types of buses and specialized vehicle bodies such as emergency service units and safari vehicles, will benefit from Afrirent’s stability and ability to foster long-term growth. The acquisition aligns with Busmark’s business rescue plan and ensures continuity in its industrial operations and jobs. This is bolstered by support from The Industrial Development Corporation of South Africa Limited throughout the business rescue process.
The acquisition places Afrirent in a strategic position within the South African transport infrastructure sector. By integrating bus manufacturing capabilities, Afrirent enhances its comprehensive service offerings, becoming more competitive against major players in the fleet management and vehicle manufacturing markets.
Looking forward, Afrirent's ability to integrate Busmark’s operations smoothly will be pivotal. There are no major regulatory hurdles ahead, allowing Afrirent to proceed with immediate implementation of their plans for Busmark’s growth and operational stability.
