AM Consulting Engineers acquires Bridges Pound

AM Consulting Engineers, based in Northern Ireland, has completed the acquisition of Bridges Pound Ltd, a UK civil and structural engineering firm, for £1.3 million, approximately $2 million. This transaction, advised by Turley Legal, doubles AM's workforce to 40 and significantly expands its engineering capabilities and market presence in the UK.

The acquisition enables the two companies to integrate their complementary skills, enhancing expertise in civil, structural, and geotechnical engineering across key sectors such as infrastructure, education, and building projects. This strategic move aligns with AM Consulting Engineers' broader growth ambitions, detailed in Managing Director Aidan McCarthy's statement, which emphasized the enhancement of their team’s capabilities and the expansion within the Great Britain market. The recent relocation to a new headquarters at Jennymount Business Park in Belfast, along with plans to grow the Cork office, underscore the company's expansion strategy.

Founded in 2021, AM Consulting Engineers has quickly diversified its service offerings beyond civil engineering, branching into structural and geotechnical work. The acquisition of Bridges Pound, a longstanding player with over four decades of operation serving developers, contractors, and local authorities, offers AM significant synergies. These synergies are expected to facilitate faster expansion across the GB market and enrich AM's project portfolio with experience in hotel construction, education facilities, and major infrastructure projects.

The acquisition comes at a time when AM Consulting Engineers has also been shortlisted for the prestigious Irish Construction Excellence Awards 2026, underscoring its commitment to technical innovation. Recent projects include involvement in significant infrastructure programs such as the £84 million Narrow Water Bridge, the Grade A-listed Clarence Chambers restoration, and the Terryland Water Treatment Plant. On the other side, Bridges Pound’s project credentials include the £124 million University of Warwick campus development and substantial redevelopment efforts in Central London exceeding £50 million.
