AM Consulting Engineers acquires Bridges Pound
AM Consulting Engineers, headquartered in Northern Ireland, has acquired Bridges Pound, a civil and structural engineering firm based in Coventry. This acquisition effectively doubles AM's workforce to 40 employees and enhances its technical expertise across geotechnical, civil, and structural engineering domains. The transaction value was undisclosed, although it was noted to be a six-figure sum.
The strategic acquisition aligns with AM Consulting Engineers' ambition to expand its footprint in the UK market. Established in 2021, the firm has rapidly grown, now handling a variety of projects in the water, wastewater, transportation, and infrastructure sectors. The combined annual turnover of AM Consulting Engineers and Bridges Pound exceeded £5 million last year, indicating a solid financial grounding for future growth initiatives.
Bridges Pound brings four decades of industry experience and a diverse client base, encompassing developers, contractors, and local authorities. The inclusion of Bridges Pound's expertise is set to create synergies through complementary skills, extending AM's reach into sectors such as hotels, education, and major infrastructure projects. Notable projects include AM's involvement in the £84 million Narrow Water Bridge project and Bridges Pound's work on the £124 million University of Warwick campus redevelopment.
This acquisition situates AM Consulting Engineers to compete more robustly in the broader civil and structural engineering markets, enabling more extensive sector exposure and operational scale. It reflects a broader trend in the engineering industry where firms are consolidating to diversify capabilities and expand market reach amid growing infrastructure and development demands.
Looking forward, AM Consulting Engineers' investment also includes a £1.3 million plan to boost sales in the Middle East, supported by Invest NI’s Export Growth Programme. This expansion beyond the UK could provide significant new revenue streams and strategic partnerships, though effective execution in overseas markets will require considered strategic planning and resource allocation.
