Colonial Group acquires Atkinson Oil Co., LLC

Colonial Oil Industries, a subsidiary of Savannah-based Colonial Group Inc., has acquired Atkinson Oil Co., LLC, a fuel and lubricants distributor headquartered in Sandersville, Georgia. The transaction, whose financial details were not disclosed, aims to bolster Colonial Oil Industries’ distribution network and presence in the southeastern United States.

The strategic acquisition of Atkinson Oil will extend Colonial Oil’s operational footprint to Sandersville and Macon, Georgia, with plans to keep all existing facilities active. The move is set to integrate 14 employees from Atkinson Oil into Colonial Oil’s workforce. Christian Demere, president and CEO of Colonial Group, stated that the acquisition supports the company’s regional growth strategy and praised Atkinson Oil’s strong local ties and customer relationships.

For Colonial Oil Industries, the deal provides a significant opportunity to enhance service continuity and expand its offerings under its established brand. As part of the integration process, customers and partners can expect uninterrupted services, aligning with a shared focus on safety and customer service excellence. Clint Hancock, CEO of Atkinson Oil, emphasized the synergy between the two firms and highlighted the potential for long-term growth and expanded resources under the new ownership.

This acquisition comes at a time of active consolidation within the fuel and lubricants distribution sector, with various transactions reshaping the competitive landscape. The integration of Atkinson Oil is expected to strengthen Colonial Oil’s market position across several southeastern states, leveraging its extensive network to serve wholesale, commercial, and marine clients more effectively.

The transaction, advised by Matrix Capital Markets Group on behalf of Atkinson Oil, is linked to Jet Food Stores of Georgia, Inc., to which Atkinson Oil is affiliated. Proceeds from the deal will reportedly be used by Jet Food Stores to enhance its own operations, focusing on growth within its chain of 54 convenience stores across central and southern Georgia. Moving forward, assurance of regulatory compliance and successful integration will be key as Colonial Oil advances its expansion efforts.
