Sika acquires Akkim Sealants & Adhesives

Sika has announced its acquisition of Akkim, an adhesives and sealants manufacturer based in Turkey. This move is crucial for Sika as it seeks to strengthen its presence in high-growth markets and expand its production capabilities, aligning with the company's broader strategic goals.

While financial details remain undisclosed, Akkim brings a strong regional presence to Sika’s portfolio, particularly in Eastern Europe, Central Asia, the Middle East, and North Africa. Akkim, a family-owned business, reported net sales of approximately EUR 209 million last year. It operates two major manufacturing facilities in Turkey and Romania, and a new site in Turkey is expected to further augment production capacity. These facilities will serve as hubs for an expansive geographic market, enhancing both production and export operations for Sika.

The acquisition supports Sika's goals under its Strategy 2028, which emphasizes the expansion of its adhesives and sealants business lines. Akkim's expertise in channel management and its established distribution network will not only broaden customer access but also provide opportunities for cross-selling complementary products like repair mortars and waterproofing systems. Integrating Akkim’s resources will enhance Sika’s existing production infrastructure, optimizing efficiency and expanding export capabilities.

This acquisition comes at a time when market dynamics are increasingly competitive. Sika aims to leverage Akkim's assets to enhance its engagement and performance in retail and e-commerce channels, which are crucial for sustaining growth amid globally shifting demand patterns. Regulatory approvals are pending for the transaction, with closure expected in the third quarter of 2026.
