Mobius Renewables acquires Air Liquide
Mobius Renewables has acquired the biogas production activities of Air Liquide across the United States, France, Norway, and Sweden. This transaction underscores Mobius's ambition to scale its renewable natural gas (RNG) operations and fortify its position in the low-carbon fuels sector.
The acquisition involves a portfolio consisting of six landfill gas-to-RNG sites in the U.S. and five farm waste sites in France. Additionally, Mobius has secured a 51% stake in Redo Biosolutions, which manages production and distribution facilities in Norway and Sweden. The deal integrates these assets under the Mobius brand, alongside GreenGasUSA, further establishing its operational structure. Though the financial terms remain undisclosed, the acquisition boosts Mobius's renewable energy capacity to generate and distribute over 5.5 million MMBtu of RNG annually.
Mobius Renewables, founded in December 2025 and backed by IFM Investors, aims to leverage this acquisition to enhance its operational efficacy and expand its global footprint. The company, headquartered in Houston, will focus on optimizing its newly integrated operations and exploring additional project investments. According to Cynthia Walker, President and CEO of Mobius, the company is positioned to unlock greater value for partners while advancing global sustainability objectives.
Within the renewable energy sector, this acquisition consolidates Mobius's presence and challenges competitors by expanding its geographical and operational reach. With Air Liquide's biogas operations now under its domain, Mobius is strategically placed to capitalize on the growing demand for RNG. This aligns with broader industry trends as energy companies globally intensify their focus on sustainable and renewable solutions amid regulatory pressures and shifting market preferences.
Going forward, Mobius Renewables will need to navigate regulatory landscapes across multiple jurisdictions as it integrates and possibly expands its operations post-acquisition. Attention will likely shift towards realizing operational synergies and achieving growth milestones that align with the company's sustainability goals.
