Publicis Worldwide acquires 160Over90
Publicis Groupe has acquired 160over90 from WME for an undisclosed amount, sharpening its focus on the sports marketing sector. Publicis CEO Arthur Sadoun articulated this acquisition as part of the company's broader strategic push into sports, which it views as a critical growth engine. The purchase, reportedly valued at over $500 million, follows Publicis' recent acquisitions of other sports-focused agencies such as Adopt and Bespoke in 2025.
The acquisition aligns 160over90, which boasts deep expertise in sports across various disciplines, with Publicis' existing strengths in data, technology, and influencer marketing. The integration will leverage Publicis Sports Intelligence's data platform, Epsilon, and Influential's creator platform, augmented by WME's talent and intellectual property capabilities. According to Publicis Sports CEO Suzy Deering, the unified offering is designed to provide clients with enhanced audience engagement and growth opportunities. A long-term commercial partnership with WME will provide Publicis greater access to talent, while WME benefits from Publicis' brand partnerships.
The move taps into a lucrative and rapidly evolving market, with the global sports media market valued at $150 billion and sports sponsorships exceeding $90 billion. Publicis aims to streamline the often fragmented sports marketing landscape with a comprehensive solution, enhancing transparency and offering measurable returns on investment. As major global events such as the Super Bowl, Olympics, and World Cup promise significant advertising interest, this acquisition positions Publicis to capitalize effectively on these opportunities.
For WME, the sale of 160over90 aligns with its broader strategy to consolidate operations following its privatization and rebranding to WME Group in 2025. Previous sales of its sports and hospitality assets, such as IMG and Professional Bull Riders, reflect this ongoing streamlining. Despite the divestiture, WME's continued involvement with 160over90 ensures it remains engaged in the sports media space via its talent networks.
The deal is subject to regulatory approval and other customary closing conditions. Should these be resolved, Publicis will integrate WME's 670 employees into its newly formed Publicis Sports unit. This structural adjustment is intended to simplify clients' navigation of sports marketing, moving away from siloed agency models and enhancing the robustness of Publicis' value proposition in this expanding field.
