Vodafone Romania merges with Telekom Romania Mobile Communications

Vodafone Romania is set to merge with Telekom Romania Mobile Communications by the end of June 2026. The merger, valued at €70 million, represents the culmination of a strategic process initiated in October 2025. This move aims to solidify Vodafone's foothold in the Romanian telecommunications market by enhancing customer service and enabling further network development.

Under the terms of the transaction, Vodafone paid €30 million to acquire Telekom's postpaid and business customer segments, along with its retail network, technical infrastructure, and workforce. Digi, another telecom operator, acquired Telekom's prepaid segment, spectrum rights, and tower assets for €40 million. The integration of operations, systems, and network infrastructure has been underway since the transaction's announcement.

Vodafone reaches approximately 8.4 million customers in Romania, with a significant majority on subscription plans. The company intends to maintain existing service offerings while streamlining customer interactions through a consolidated service model across physical retail locations, call centers, and digital platforms. This integration reflects Vodafone’s larger strategic objective to offer a cohesive customer experience and robust service standards.

The Romanian telecom sector has been characterized by fierce competition and a push towards consolidation to better meet consumer demands.
