Toronto FC acquires Sporting Kansas City

Toronto FC has acquired forward Dániel Sallói from Sporting Kansas City. The deal, revealed on Thursday, involves Toronto paying up to $1 million in General Allocation Money (GAM) to Sporting Kansas City, which includes a guaranteed $300,000 and an additional $700,000 contingent on performance-based conditions. Sporting Kansas City will also retain a percentage of any future transfer fee for the Hungarian international.

Dániel Sallói, aged 29, has been a key figure at Sporting Kansas City since joining as a homegrown player in 2016. Over his tenure, he has made 287 appearances, scoring 67 goals and providing 47 assists, making him the club's second top scorer and placing fourth in goal contributions with 114. In addition to his club performances, Sallói has earned four caps for the Hungarian national team. Toronto FC's general manager, Jason Hernandez, highlighted Sallói's experience and impact as key factors for his acquisition, expressing anticipation in integrating him into the team.

Sporting Kansas City viewed the transaction as a strategic move to gain financial flexibility while reshaping their roster. Their president of soccer operations and general manager, David Lee, commented on Sallói's decade-long contributions to the club and expressed gratitude while acknowledging the need to move in another direction as Sallói's contract approached its final year.

This acquisition underscores Toronto FC's strategy to strengthen their attacking options ahead of the 2026 campaign. In a competitive MLS landscape, Toronto aims to leverage Sallói's experience to climb up the standings.
