Abu Dhabi Ports acquires MBS Logistics
AD Ports Group has entered into an agreement to acquire the German logistics firm MBS Logistics for approximately $82 million. This acquisition represents a strategic move by AD Ports to bolster its logistics capabilities and expand its geographical reach, particularly in Central Europe. The deal involves full ownership of MBS Logistics' core operations, excluding joint ventures, and is pending EU regulatory clearance, with an anticipated closure in the latter half of 2026.
MBS Logistics, which reported a revenue of around $232.5 million in 2025, operates extensively across freight forwarding activities. The acquisition will integrate MBS Logistics into Noatum Logistics, a division of AD Ports, expanding its network throughout Europe and major trade routes, including Europe-Asia, Trans-Pacific, and Trans-Atlantic corridors. This integration aims to enhance AD Ports' competitive edge in offering diverse freight solutions such as air, ocean, road, and rail freight forwarding, alongside other services like customs, multimodal transport, and project cargo solutions.
The strategic acquisition is significant for AD Ports Group as it seeks to extend its logistical footprint in Europe, leveraging MBS Logistics' presence in key regions like the Nordics, BENELUX, Switzerland, and Eastern Europe. The acquisition also strengthens AD Ports' service delivery across high-demand sectors such as aerospace, automotive, and consumer goods, among others. Led by Jochen Thewes, AD Ports' logistics arm is positioning itself to better serve the growing demand from multinational customers in these sectors.
This expansion comes at a crucial time as logistics firms worldwide are navigating increased demand for comprehensive supply chain solutions across diversified routes and markets. By extending its reach into European and transoceanic markets, AD Ports faces opportunities to optimize its service offerings and capitalize on the interconnected nature of global trade. Within a competitive logistics sector, this acquisition marks a significant step for AD Ports in enhancing its market presence against competitors in the freight forwarding industry.
Looking ahead, successful regulatory approval will be essential for the completion of the transaction. As the deal progresses towards its expected conclusion in 2026, AD Ports Group will focus on harmonizing MBS Logistics’ operations with its broader logistics network to maximize efficiencies and growth potential. The continuation of regulatory processes will be pivotal in determining the finalization of this acquisition, setting the stage for AD Ports' expanded role in global logistics.
