Foundry acquires Griptape

Foundry, a London-based software firm specializing in visual effects and animation technology, has acquired the Seattle startup Griptape. Founded in 2023 by former Amazon Web Services executives, Griptape developed a platform geared towards the secure management and coordination of multiple AI models and agents. The acquisition, whose financial terms remain undisclosed, aims to enhance Foundry's capabilities in AI-driven production tools.

Griptape positioned itself as an enterprise-grade alternative to AI frameworks, capturing the attention of various production studios. The startup raised $12.5 million in funding in its founding year, receiving backing from investment firms such as Fuse, Acequia Capital, Crosslink Capital, Range Ventures, and Peterson Ventures. All 13 of Griptape’s employees will transition to Foundry, bringing their specialized expertise in AI to the London firm.

Foundry's CEO, Jody Madden, emphasized the strategic value of the acquisition, stating that integrating Griptape's platform will allow Foundry to offer creative production solutions that enhance efficiency and user control.
