Discovery Metals acquires Glencore Canada Corporation
Discovery Silver Corp. has completed the acquisition of Glencore Canada Corporation's Kidd operations in Timmins, Ontario. This acquisition is expected to significantly bolster Discovery's strategic growth initiatives, including a plan to more than double its gold production in the Timmins region to exceed half a million ounces annually.
Details of the transaction remain undisclosed. The acquisition encompasses the Kidd Metallurgical Site, the Kidd Creek copper, zinc, and silver mine, and an extensive land package through Kidd Creek Timber Ltd. Strategic plans for the newly acquired facilities include advancing a study to construct a new conventional gold processing circuit at the Kidd Met Site. This site will process outputs from several mines—including Hoyle Pond, Pamour, Borden, and TVZ—while the Dome Mill will focus on the adjacent Dome Mine.
For Discovery, the acquisition offers notable synergies. The company anticipates reduced haulage costs and greater waste deposition efficiency due to the proximity of its existing operations to the Kidd Met Site. The site will also provide surface access crucial for the expansion of Hoyle Pond and Pamour, serving as key positions for future exploration. Additionally, Discovery gains exposure to critical minerals at Kidd Creek, where expected 2026 production includes substantial quantities of zinc, copper, and silver.
This move places Discovery in a distinct position within the mining sector, enhancing its competitive edge in the production of precious and base metals. The acquisition also extends Discovery's footprint in the region, affording vital exploration potential in northern Timmins. For the Timmins mining camp, this integration implies the realization of substantial operational efficiencies and the unlocking of mineral resources, particularly in an era of heightened interest in critical metals.
Looking forward, Discovery will continue to evaluate infrastructure enhancements at the Kidd Met Site, including potential new ventilation systems and shaft developments at Hoyle Pond. These developments align with Discovery's broader operational and financial objectives, placing it well for structured expansion and operational consolidation in the coming years.
