Lexington Sporting Club acquires FC Tulsa

Lexington Sporting Club has secured the services of goalkeeper Johan Peñaranda from FC Tulsa through a transfer, pending league and federation approval. This acquisition comes as Lexington SC prepares for the 2026 season in the USL Championship, aiming to bolster their squad with proven talent.

Peñaranda, a 26-year-old New York native, brings considerable experience to Lexington, having made 48 appearances for FC Tulsa over the past two seasons. During his tenure with Tulsa, he achieved a save percentage of 73.5%, alongside 139 saves and 15 shutouts. His performance, while solid, was slightly offset by a Goals Prevented mark of -4.63. Prior to his time at Tulsa, he played for Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC in USL League One, where he earned accolades including the USL League One Save of the Year in 2022.

The goalkeeper's career path highlights his development through prestigious youth academies, including BW Gottschee and New York City FC. He contributed to NYCFC's youth success with victories in the 2017 Generation adidas Cup and the U.S. Soccer Development Academy title in 2018. Peñaranda also gained college experience at the University of Pittsburgh and Florida International University before signing his first professional contract with A.D. Municipal Santa Ana in Costa Rica.
