Euricom acquires Ebly
Euricom has reached a definitive agreement to acquire Ebly SAS from its current owners, Mars Incorporated and Axéréal Participations. This transaction involves the full acquisition of Ebly, including its Châteaudun production facility in the Loire region, known as Europe's largest plant for microwave ready-meals. Specific financial terms were not disclosed. This strategic acquisition strengthens Euricom's foothold in the European rice and cereals market, enhancing its role as a key supplier to private label and business-to-business clients.
With a production capacity surpassing 100 million units annually, Ebly is a leader in the microwaveable meal sector, notably in pre-cooked wheat-based products. This aligns seamlessly with Euricom’s existing range, which includes pasta, flour, and semolina. The Ebly brand will now join Euricom’s roster of established names such as Curtiriso and Riso Flora in Italy, and Sonko in Poland. Mars will remain involved by marketing Ebly’s current product lineup until the end of 2026 under existing arrangements as part of this transaction.
Euricom's leadership outlined the rationale behind the acquisition as a move to expand their offerings in the microwaveable ready meal sector and to strengthen partnerships with Mars and Axéréal. For the company, this deal represents an opportunity to provide a complete and diverse product portfolio across Europe, which could bolster its competitive stance in the growing convenience foods market.
This acquisition comes at a time of increasing demand for convenient, ready-to-eat options across Europe, as consumers look for time-saving meal choices. Euricom's expansion through Ebly could incentivize competitors in the food production sector to pursue similar strategic enhancements, possibly leading to further consolidation in the market. This intensifies competition within the quick-preparation meals category, where efficiency and brand strength become pivotal.
The transaction is contingent upon the completion of a consultation process with Ebly's trade union representatives, in accordance with French labor laws. While the consultation remains the sole condition for the completion of the acquisition, Euricom aims to finalize the deal by April 2026, pending the satisfactory conclusion of these discussions.
