Pharmacy2U acquires Care Quality Pharmacy

Pharmacy2U has acquired Care Quality Pharmacy (CQP), one of the UK's prominent care home pharmacy providers, marking its entry into the care home pharmacy sector. The acquisition broadens Pharmacy2U's presence in the pharmaceutical market, as CQP caters to independent and national care home groups, extra care services, and domiciliary care agencies across England, Scotland, and Wales.

This strategic acquisition allows Pharmacy2U to tap into a segment that dispenses a significant proportion of prescription medications in the UK. Although the financial terms remain undisclosed, CEO Kevin Heath emphasized the alignment of CQP's service quality and reliability with Pharmacy2U's objectives. Heath expressed confidence in the new partnership’s potential for continued excellence in care and service to customers and patients.

The move is partly motivated by a growing market for NHS prescriptions among care home residents. According to the NHS Business Services Authority, the number of care home patients aged 65 and over receiving NHS prescriptions rose to 331,000, with the total cost of drugs increasing to £410 million in the 2024/25 period. This trend underscores the demand for efficient pharmaceutical services within care homes and aligns with Pharmacy2U's expansion strategy.

This acquisition is part of a broader wave of expansion for Pharmacy2U, which has recently added several other entities, including Lloyds Direct and Medicines Management Solutions, to its portfolio. The company's penetration into this niche market places it in direct competition with other pharmacy providers seeking to leverage the growing pharmaceutical needs of the aging population.

Looking forward, the completion of this acquisition is anticipated to propel Pharmacy2U's growth in the UK.
