Amplitude Energy Ltd acquires Beach Energy
Amplitude Energy Ltd has announced the acquisition of Beach Energy's 50% stake in a crucial gas field asset for $58.3 million AUD. The acquisition is aimed at expediting the development of the Artisan gas field, located offshore southeast Australia. Amplitude's purchase price is complemented by a $3.75 per gigajoule royalty on future production, though this fee is capped at 31 petajoules net to the company.
The deal centers around the VIC/L35 production licence, which comprises the Artisan gas resource positioned approximately 17 kilometers from Amplitude's offshore pipeline infrastructure. This strategic location is set to facilitate the integration of Artisan into Amplitude's East Coast Supply Project (ECSP), enhancing its existing capabilities. The acquisition is part of Amplitude's strategy to secure and expand its supply base, joining the annexed Annie resource under one coordinated production plan, with operations anticipated to commence by 2028.
For Amplitude Energy, this acquisition is more than a mere expansion of their asset base; it presents an opportunity to be a leading supplier in the east coast gas market. By securing Artisan’s production potential, Amplitude aims to strengthen its supply reliability and expand its footprint in the energy market, aligning with broader goals to address the regional demand for gas and to foster energy security.
The acquisition puts Amplitude in a stronger competitive position relative to other players in the Australian oil and gas sector, notably in the context of tightening supply and regulatory scrutiny on new gas projects. The addition of Artisan promises to bolster Amplitude’s market standing, providing a platform for future growth in an industry increasingly focused on delivering reliable, and sustainable energy solutions.
Moving forward, Amplitude will need to navigate regulatory approvals and integrate the new asset into its operations. The focus will likely be on minimizing transition disruptions and securing the efficient monetization of Artisan's reserves. Meeting projected timelines will be paramount to ensuring that the 2028 production target remains on course and that the additional supply can effectively mitigate anticipated market supply constraints.
